Key Buying Factors for LVP

Wear Layer (Most Important)

This clear top layer protects against scratches and stains. For residential, 12-20 mil is standard; 20+ mil is recommended for high-traffic or pet-friendly homes.

Core Type:

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite):

Extremely rigid, dense, and 100% waterproof. Best for high-traffic sunrooms and basements.

WPC (Wood Plastic Composite):

Softer and warmer underfoot than SPC, but still 100% waterproof. Ideal for living areas and bedrooms.

Total Thickness:

Look for 5 mm to 8 mm for better durability, stability, and comfort.

Installation:

Click-lock (floating) systems are common and easy to install. Ensure the planks have a robust, high-quality locking mechanism.

Underlayment:

Many premium planks come with pre-attached cork or foam padding, which improves sound reduction and comfort.

Texture & Look:

Choose Embossed in Registered (EIR) for the most realistic wood-grain texture.
